Many lenses allow you to focus to infinity. Perhaps the 50mm f/1.8D lens's biggest drawback is that it is not compatible with all Nikon cameras. Most modern lenses, the 50mm f/1.8G have a small motor in the lens which allows it to focus. The 50mm f/1.8D, however, has no motor.

A metal mount is generally superior to a plastic mount as it is more durable.
